At last weeks meeting it was suggested that i use a slightly smaller pinion than the manufacturers guide because the speed controller was over heating and consiquently over heating. The guide says that a 12 turn motor should have a 21 tooth pinion gear on( i no this is only a recomendation) but after looking at the pinion gear on the BK2 i descovered there was a 19 tooth pinion gear on. What do you recon i should do? Go down a tooth maybe?

What speedo are you using, Matt?
If you're 2 teeth below the recommended pinion already, then it should be ok as it is. It could just have been the hot weather, though another possibility is the motor brushes- are they ok?

I used to run a 11x2 in my BK2 with a 20 tooth pinion, so a 19 tooth with a 12 turn motor should be about spot on, if anything a little under-geared.

It was very very hot last week, so I'd blame the weather and not your gearing for the problems.

under gearing the car can cause heat to, i'd get a 21 and try it there not expensive.

i run my car 1 or 2 teeth under geared, my car comes off warm but has fantastic acceleration and mid corner speed

my car is currently geared as per manual. going 1 tooth larger only appears to generate excess heat, smaller pinions give to much acceleration and on a large track like lawford cause the motor to over rev and get hot.
last time i looked my car was not lacking in acceleration or top end . would you agree brad ( just thinking of the overtaking manoeuvre down the streight last week )
well done last week, the best driver won. just goes to show that speed doesnt always get you yo the finish line first

I use a 19 tooth with 78 Spur in my BK2 with a 10x2 motor. I can go up to a 21 but it's far too fast and the motor over heats on the 8th or 9th lap. I'll prob go to a 20 if the track layout is more open.

It currently feels slighty undergeared and constantly tries to lift the front wheels, but i prefer slightly less speed and more control, plus the ability to gain places out of the corners.

The Brushes have only recently been replaced and the speedo is a Tekin 410s so its old but its smooth and the brakes are pretty good. I think it may have been the hot weather too, so i've cut a vent in the body to aid cooling. I'll buy a selection of pinions today to have a quick play on sunday before the race
