With numbers steadily dwindling, I think -even at this early stage- that we should start to consider what direction to take in 2010.

What's your view on perhaps racing every other week, instead of weekly?
This is not a road I'd choose to take, but at the mo I can't see numbers improving next year!

Also, perhaps we should consider going back to "mixed" qualifying (2wd & 4wd Champs) but having separate "A" Finals for each class (Club Champs).
Qualifying scores would be as they are now, with the "A" Finals scoring: 25, 20, 15, 12, 11, 10. Mixed "B": 8, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1.

How's about reducing the number of Championship Rounds to best 8 from 12? This would help if we were to race once a fortnight.

Any views?

From a purely selfish point of view I would prefer to have the meetings each week... not because I can attend them all, but if they run each week there is more chance of me being able to attend and fit my racing around my work.

I have no issue with mixed qually... a race is a race.  Though I suppose you would get more opposition to this one from the 2wd lads.

I don't race for the champs, so I have no views on the points system or the number of rounds to count.

Apologies for the quick-fire answers... running out of time, but wanted to answer the queries.

I agree, I'd rather race less than not race at all.

Every other week might be better - if we did alternate weeks to Coastal we might get some of the Coastal lads at our place and vice versa (for those that like to race every week)...

Mixed classes are probably the only option if we can't fill a heat with one class Crying or Very sad  It looks like 4wd is going to be the more popular class next season - with George, Colesie & possibly Steve C & myself migrating to 4wd, I can't see us filling a 2wd heat without an influx of new regulars.

These ideas might not be popular with everybody but if we can make the racing more 'attendance proof' and more competitive, it's gonna be an improvement Question

This is what I had in mind, since we are more or less "united" with Coastal. Each club could have its own Off-Road Championship whereby drivers from both clubs could compete in each without missing out on rounds and/or a weekend's racing.

I think it's a good idea.

Will give us less back to back races/marshalling duties, more breathing space, and will strangely mean we get through a meeting quicker.

I'll have a talk with Paul at the last SEN round regarding dates for next year etc., and apart from the Manningtree Car Show (April 25th, I think?), we should be able to sort something out.

So, to that end, here is what I propose:

Best 8 scores from 12 rounds.

Mixed qualifying for the Class Championships.

6 cars per race, 6 races each, scoring 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, 0 with each driver dropping their worst score, giving a maximum of 25 pts.

Separate "A" Finals for the Club Champs, scoring 25, 20, 15, 12, 11, 10;
and a mixed "B" Final scoring 8, 6, 4, 3, 2, 1.

Each Championship (Class & Club) would then have a possible maximum score of 200.

Hope that all makes sense!

I think mixing it up is the only way until the numbers pick up, it means you don't have to race the same ugly faces and it may also give those who have got a bit pissed off with losing every race a better chance of doing a bit better.

I agree the 2WD's might not be so happy... as it will be harder for them to win against the quicker 4WDs... but Coastal run mixed classes and those who have raced there, from my knowledge, have never had a problem with the format?

I do like the idea of every other weekend opposite to Coastal, meaning for those that wish to race each week, they can.

Every other week, also means more recovery time for Jim after a Saturday nights drinking!

It all sounds good and will help the Lawford track start to recover from the abuse it had from running every week?

Hope to race some more next year Rolling Eyes

What is going to happen with the regionals?

Who else is up for some of the nationals?

Wiggles..

Less is more sometimes?

The Oswestry Club (one of the longest established in the UK) has some pathetic turnouts sometimes, but then out of nowhere a the numbers increase. These things follow the rhythm of life, if you know what I mean.

I'm sorry I haven't got down more this year. I haven't raced anywhere since March  Crying or Very sad
