Lipo

Hi All, the Lipo ruling was approved , but there seems to be an issue on the use of saddles and an upper voltage limit of 7.4v.
That means that the trakpowers are not allowed???
Just thought i would update you all.

Good news about Lipo. Would have been madness not to have allowed them.
LBC

Not so good for those with TrakPower cells, as many of our members have!
Seems to me they don't want to help the sport progress.
They're doing themselves no favours.
Still, there's always the SEN Grand Prix Series.
They allow TrakPower Lipos. Laughing
BenH

Anybody know any saddles that are hard cased and that are 7.2v?
Alfonzo II

I don't know much about these matters - but I get the impression there's still some fine tuning to be done to the reg's and that the Trakpower stuff might be ok yet..
BenH

I hope so. Otherwise my pre-emptive purchases may be wasted Shocked

However, there is always the opportunity for us to push the region to get the Cell rules put under rule 2.2. Which means we get autonomy on the cell choice for the region/ section. We might have missed the boat on this one though. Also may be a tough move, as it will open up the possibility of people running silly cells. (Notice should, rather than must!)

2.2 The Section Rules are designed to cover all
requirements for the National Series and other
Sanctioned events. Regional events sanctioned
by the Section should run to the same format,

but are allowed to use variations of the following
rules (which are underlined individually) :-
15.10, 15.12, 15.23, 15.29, 15.31, 17.4,
17.5, 18.2, 18.3, (Insert 25.2, 25.3 as below)

Cells ruling: -
25. BATTERIES
25.1 Cars will be driven by a maximum of six
rechargeable cells, which cannot be replaced
after a race has started.
25.2 The description, specification and types of
rechargeable batteries approved for use in Off-
Road Sanctioned events can be found in the
section entitled ‘BRCA Electric Board’ (EB).
25.3 Cells can only be used if they are included
on the BRCA (EB) homologation list at the time
of the event.
25.4 Entrants must be prepared to open packs
on demand of the race Scrutineer to demonstrate
the eligibility of the rechargeable batteries.

Just read the oople posts. Seems to be a lot of if's and buts.

Best old our horses until further news.

Fingers crossed!

It's not cut and dried yet. Hopefully it'll pan out ok very shortly.
BenH

I don't get it????

I am curious as to what's happened. Below I have copied the proposal. So what happened.?

The proposal includes both stick and saddle. It also includes the dimensions that would include Trakpowers Stick and Saddle including both
4400's (dimensions L-70 x W-47 x H-30) and
3200's (dimensions L-71 x W-47 x H-25)

Was the vote raised?
Which way did the vote go?
If (according to what's been posted previously) why was the proposal split between stick and saddle?

Rule 25.1 Proposed: Chris Long Seconded: Jonathan Clark 1.09.2008. Amend to read

“Cars will be driven by a maximum of six rechargeable Nimh cells or two rechargeable Lithium Polymer cells in stick or saddle pack configuration, which cannot be replaced after a race has started.

(Rationale – To allow the use of Lithium Polymer (Lipo) batteries at 1/10 Off Road Regional and National events in 2009. Many club racers are already using Lipo batteries at club meetings; if Lipo batteries are not allowed to be used at Regional and National meetings a growing number of members will be excluded from racing at these meetings.

Rules to be amended

Electric Board 3.1 – Amend to include “2 cell (2S) Lithium Polymer rechargeable cells rated at 3.7 volts nominal per cell, 2 cells in series, battery packs must have a hard protective casing that completely envelopes the cell(s).

The maximum case sizes are as follows

– Stick packs –
Length: 139.00mm
Width: 47.00mm
Height: 25.00mm

- Saddle packs -
Length: 71mm
Width: 47mm
Height: 30mm
(Height excludes the mouldings on the bottom of the case that help locate the battery pack in the car)

Electric Board 2.1 – Amend to include “2S Lipo 7.4v rechargeable battery pack - £80.00

BRCA Electric Board 2008 Safety Guidelines and Technical Rules for use of Lithium Polymer (Lipo) Batteries – To be adopted by 1/10th Off Road Section and amended to incorporate the above proposed rule amendments. ie rule 1 to be amended to include saddle pack batteries and dimensions.

The BRCA Electric Board Lipo homologation list, to include saddle pack configuration lipo’s once submitted by manufactures and approved by the BRCA.
LBC

I'm sure they'll get it sorted to account for TrakPower cells Ben- they'd be very foolish not to!
Sloppy-ball-joint

Howdy gang,

The way I read the info. inserted by Benny is that it has still got to be made official about the saddles but will be soon - as it seems to distinctly mention saddles and dimensions AND 7.4V.

See what happens I guess but either way, we higher beings at LBC, can use them anyway Smile

Duncs.
